Limpopo-Lipadi

Limpopo-Lipadi is a private wildlife reserve located in Botswana’s Tuli Block region, along the Limpopo River. It’s a shareholder-owned reserve, meaning individuals can become co-owners or investors. The reserve follows a strict no-hunting policy and focuses on conservation, species protection, and community engagement.

Size, Landscape, and Wildlife

The reserve covers roughly 20,500 hectares of wilderness and includes about 14 km of river frontage. The landscape features rocky outcrops, baobab trees, riverine forests, and mopane woodlands, offering a mix of habitats for wildlife.

Limpopo-Lipadi is home to a rich variety of species, including elephants, leopards, southern white rhinos, wild dogs, brown hyenas, and over 300 bird species. Its African wild dog population is one of the highlights for visitors and conservationists alike.

History and Location

Situated in the Tuli Block—a scenic area in eastern Botswana bordered by South Africa and Zimbabwe—the land once served as cattle farms before being restored into a protected wilderness. The reserve’s ongoing mission is rewilding: restoring the natural environment and reintroducing native species that were displaced by past agricultural use.

Visitor Experience and Activities

Guests can experience a range of guided activities designed to immerse them in the ecosystem:

River Camp Accommodation: Lodges built along the Limpopo River, blending natural design with modern comfort.

Game Drives: Morning and afternoon drives across diverse landscapes to observe wildlife.

Night Drives: Opportunities to spot nocturnal animals and enjoy stargazing.

Bush Walks and Viewing Hides: Guided walks and observation hides near waterholes for close wildlife encounters.

Rhino Tracking and Anti-Poaching Walks: Guests can join rangers to track rhinos and learn about conservation efforts.

Wild Dog Tracking: A signature experience focused on one of the reserve’s most celebrated species.

Bush Dinners and Sleep-Outs: Dining under the stars and overnight stays in the open bush.

Accommodation and Facilities

The reserve offers a limited number of lodges—each private, spacious, and overlooking the river or surrounding bush. Designed for small groups or families, they provide a balance of seclusion and comfort, with amenities that suit both relaxation and adventure.

Community and Conservation

Limpopo-Lipadi places strong emphasis on community involvement. Most of its staff are from nearby villages, and the reserve supports local education, health, and development projects. Its conservation initiatives include habitat restoration, species monitoring, and long-term ecological management to reverse the impact of former livestock farming.
